Bluffton Car Free Day – Free Rides, New Stops, and a Fresh Way to the Market

Bluffton, SC – September 8, 2025 – World Car Free Day is celebrated around the globe each year on September 22. This year, the Bluffton Breeze—operated by Palmetto Breeze / Lowcountry Regional Transportation Authority (LRTA)—is bringing the celebration home with Bluffton Car Free Day.

On Monday, September 22, all rides on the Bluffton Breeze are free. Plus, the first seven riders on each bus who leave their cars parked and ride will receive a Transit Tote (a $25 value).

“The Bluffton Breeze gives our community a safe, reliable, and affordable way to get around while easing traffic on Bluffton’s busy roadways,” said Brian Sullivan, Executive Director of Palmetto Breeze/LRTA. “Bluffton Car Free Day is the perfect chance to give the Breeze a try and see just how easy it is to ride.”

Free rides + new stops = the best Monday ever. Along with Car Free Day, the Breeze has added stops to make catching the bus more convenient than ever:

  • Bluffton Library – closest access now at Johnson Way & Palmetto Way.
  • Bluffton Post Office – new stop at 25 Thurmond Way.
  • Greater Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine – service added near 29 Plantation Park Dr.

This fall, the Breeze is also making it easier to enjoy one of Bluffton’s favorite traditions. From September through May, a special Thursday Fresh Market Shuttle runs 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing free rides between the Walmart Bluffton parking lot and the Bluffton Fresh Market at Martin Family Park. This seasonal service helps reduce parking headaches and congestion in Historic Bluffton while giving riders a stress-free way to shop local and support community farmers.

The Bluffton Breeze operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year-round, with more than 60 stops across Bluffton and Okatie. All vehicles are fully accessible with wheelchair lifts and bicycle racks.
